Primarily, we are just trying to spread the word that the YMCA has flag football available up through the 8th grade. For some of the boys who already play tackle for their school teams they are hoping this could be an opportunity to bond more with their teammates, get some low-contact reps, and just have some fun on the weekends.
For more information about YMCA sign-ups navigate through the ymcainw.org website or head straight to their football registration page.
The hope is that enough boys from the school teams sign up to bring their offenses, defenses, and high level of play to practice in the league. This is about having fun and making each other better.
For the YMCA league rosters are organized by the Y Director. If you have particular coach/player requests those can be made when signing up.
For Flag Football at the Park we pick even teams each week based upon who shows up. The focus is on making balanced teams to promote good sportsmanship, healthy competition, comradery, and fun.
Through Covid we picked up a bunch of flags on eBay so neighborhood kids could play up at our local park. It was a blast and we are planning to host that again through the rest of the summer.
Feel free to join us on Saturdays at 1pm for some fun pick-up flag football with a great group of kids. We have enough flags and field space that we can support 2-3 simultaneous games, so feel free to invite friends. For more details, just give Jay a call.
The biggest thing folks can do is recruit other 7th/8th graders who may want to play. We need several team's worth of participants for the league to happen.
Any parent, older sibling, or family friend who wants to pour football wisdom into the kids should consider coming out.
The Hilton kids and a few of their friends have expressed a desire to meet following playtime at the park for a Bible Study. If this is something you would like to learn more about, please give Jay a call.
Football is an all-weather sport, so we will plan to play rain or shine unless there is lightning.
As far as smoke, we will cancel when air quality is deemed 'Unhealthy' and may play a limited time when the AQI rises into levels deemed 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.'
If there is doubt about kids getting together at the park on a given weekend feel free to give Jay a call.
